Pabna is a city in the west-central region of Bangladesh. It is also the biggest city of the Pabna district. It is located on the Padma river (Ganges) and has a population of 138,000. Hardinge Bridge,a steel railway bridge over the Padma located near Pabna is a link between western and northern Bangladesh.Before partition of British India, it used to be a big rail stop for the Assam and Darjeeling bound trains from Calcuttta.Pabna has the biggest Mental Hospital of the erstwhile state of Eastern Bengal.
It is a major industrial area, especially in textiles. It also holds the remains of the Hindu Temple of Jor Bangla.
