Welcome to Shanghai

Shanghai, situated on the banks of the Yangtze River Delta in East China, is the largest city of the People's Republic of China and the eighth largest in the world. Widely regarded as the citadel of China's modern economy, the city also serves as one of the nation's most important cultural, commercial, financial, industrial and communications centers. Shanghai is so vast and varied that the only sensible plan is to select a few destinations, historic sites and cultural icons and experience the uniqueness of each one.
You can start you journey through Shanghai on The Bund, Shanghai's stately street of old colonial-era buildings and the first port of call for many visitors. Shanghai's Old Town is located next to the southern part of the Bund.
While here, visit the Yuyuan Garden, a traditional Chinese Ming style private garden which is loaded with classical Chinese architecture and the Bund Historical Museum. From here go to Nanjing Road, Shanghai's main shopping street. People's Square is located at the heart of the city and is the political and cultural center of this city. The Shanghai Museum is the premiere museum of Chinese art and artifacts in China. It is located in People's Square and is beautiful inside and out. Also consider visiting Xintiandi, a small pedestrianized area of the city featuring rebuilt traditional shikumen [stone gate] houses and the Shanghai Zoo.
