Framingham is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA and the only such named town in the United States. Framingham Centre is a separate locus of development, located at the northern end of Main St. where it becomes Edgell Rd. Framingham Centre is the historical epicentre of the town and includes a beautiful Greek Gothic Village Hall overlooking a large Green. Framingham State Teachers College, the first teacher's college in the United States, overlooks the Centre from Normal Hill. Buckminster Square, where Main St. meets Union Avenue is the site where colonial minutemen gathered to train prior to the outbreak of the American Revolution. The statue of the Village Blacksmith/Minuteman is located in the Square and is the 3rd most famous Minuteman statue in Massachusetts (Lexington and Concord being the other two). |
