Quebec is a province in the central part of Canada. It is the only Canadian province with a predominantly French-speaking population, and the only one whose sole official language is French. Its European feel and its history, culture and warmth have made Québec a favorite tourist destination both nationally and internationally.
Quebec is bordered to the west by the province of Ontario, James Bay and Hudson Bay, to the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay, to the east by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and New Brunswick. It is bordered on the south by the American states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. It also shares maritime borders with the Territory of Nunavut, the Province of Prince Edward Island and the Province of Nova Scotia. Most of its inhabitants live along or close to the banks of the Saint Lawrence River. The Saint Lawrence Seaway provides a link between the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and Great Lakes starting at the Saint-Lambert locks in Montreal. The central and north portion of the province is sparsely populated and inhabited primarily by Aboriginal people. Québec offers many activities including sports and outdoor recreation, cultural and natural sites, festivals and events. For those who enjoy the outdoors and adventure, Québec’s wide open spaces have a great deal to offer. There are many outdoor sports, hunting and fishing activities visitors can enjoy.
